The history of Crescent Town is interesting since it can trace its roots back to 1887 when Walter Massey bought a 240 acre country estate positioned around Dawes Road and Victoria Park Avenue.
The Massey farm was dubbed Detonia after Mrs. Massey's family whose surname was Denton. The Massey farm sold fresh eggs, poultry and fresh trout which were caught in the numerous creeks and streams that surrounded the farm. The Massey farm was also the place of the City Dairy Company which manufactured the first pasteurized milk in Canada.
In 1933, Susan Massey openhandedly gave forty acres of Detonia to Crescent School where her grandsons were taught. Crescent School operated at Detonia until 1969 when this land was sold to the developers who purchased the present day Crescent Town neighbourhood.
