Old Kingston Road is the only historical main street in Ajax, and is lined with quaint shops and excellent restaurants. The St. Francis Centre, a restored historical church located at 78 Church Street South, is a performance venue offering live music and other entertainment.
Shoppers looking for big-name stores need only go a few minutes away to the Rio Can Durham Centre (90 Kingston Road East) where retailers such as Target and The Home Depot can be found.
There are several elementary schools located in Central West, offering education options both secular and religious, as well as one Montessori school. There is also one secondary school, Pickering High School (180 Church Street North).
For hockey and skating enthusiasts, the Village Arena (100 Church Street North is worth a visit. The ice skating arena is available to the public from September to April, and during the summer the concrete floor of the arena is available for in-line skating and ball hockey. The space also hosts art shows and trade shows during the year, as well as dance events.
For golfers, there is the Riverside Golf Club (837 Riverside Drive). The scenic 9-hole golf course is available for booking by businesses and groups, and offers a family-oriented clubhouse and tournaments.
